Ging auch etwas über 2Std, Trent hat richtig was rausgehauen. Seine einzigen Worte waren außer "Thank you" nur, dass er sich wundert dass es in Deutschland nicht regnet und er froh ist nicht "stuck in a fuckin festival" zu sein. Und die Band hat er vorgestellt. Sehr geiler Abend!

Genialer Auftritt in Berlin. Allerdings war es höllisch heiß. Trent hat angemerkt, dass es scheiße heiß auf der Bühne war und hat nach vier Songs bereits geschwitzt wie nichts gutes. Ging mir auch nicht viel besser, aber ich schätze im Scheinwerferlicht war es nochmal ein bisschen übler.

Mit Ausrufezeichen habe ich mal die "Raritäten" gekennzeichnet, die mich zuweilen gewundert haben, ist aber natürlich cool. Gefehlt hat mir ein bisschen Eraser und irgendwie auch Closer, aber was solls. Hab ich beide schon live gesehen.

Dank der BVG haben wir nicht so viel von der Vorband gesehen. Können aber auch nicht viel Zeit zum Spielen gehabt haben. Wir sind irgendwann gegen 20:30 drinnen gewesen (20:00 war Einlass) und wenige Minuten nachdem wir ankamen, waren "Mew" bereits fertig.

Auf jeden Fall geiles Konzert. Werde ich vermissen. Traurig

Stimmt, Metal hat er in DD als auch beim Hurricane gespielt. In DD auch noch Gone, Still und The Way out is trough. Sehr geil.

Kann EZR nur recht geben. War ne super Show in Berlin. Die Setlist war auch gut allerdings hat mir persönlich echt Terrible Lie gefehlt (halt mein Lieblingslied, naja). Bei der Vorband haste echt nix verpasst das war die schwulste und schlechteste vorband die ich je gesehn hab und ich war schon auf vielen Konzerten. Ansonsten echt Top. Bin froh sie Live gesehn zu haben und werde ebenfalls vermissen.

Naja, ich reg mich in er Regel nicht über Vorbands auf. Wenns mir nicht gefällt, gefällts mir nicht. Aber offenbar wurde der Band ja auch nicht so sonderlich viel Zeit zugestanden. Wenn ich mich recht erinnere haben Ladytron damals länger gespielt. Als wir reinkamen, und nicht gesungen wurde, dachte ich erst an einen Soundcheck und habe mich über die Dunkelheit gewundert. lol

Gleich mal Youtube nach Videos auschecken. Gestern waren noch keine on. Hab auch nichts gefilmt.

In Düsseldorf hat Trent Mew nochmal gelobt und meinte er sei großer Fan. Mein Fall wars nicht, aber gut. Vom DD Gig gibts massig Footage, sogar in HD.

Anja: Hi, this is Anja from “Radio ehs” in Berlin. Are you fine?
T.R.: Hi, how are you?
Anja: I’m fine , Thanks.
T.R.: I’m doing well.
Anja: And are you in Germany, or…
T.R.: I’m in Poland today. We’re playing. Yes. We’re over here.
Anja: When did you realize this tour would be your “Wave Goodbye” tour?
T.R.: Before we started this whole series of shows, before we came over to Europe, we just played five weeks of …with Jane’s Addiction in the States. And in-around the end of last year, we decided let’s have one kind of farewell go around for Nine Inch nails and just hit the world one last time and play at some shows that we thought might be fun.
Anja: So it was not like you started the usual tour with Jane’s Addition and somehow you turned out to be fed up-
T.R.: No-no-no-it wasn’t a result of any of the touring that we-it wasn’t a off the cuff thing. This was a planned out “let’s do this and then just take some time off.”
Anja: So it won’t be your last tour ever.
T.R.: Well, I’m not-I have no plans on taking Nine Inch Nails out…anytime when the calendar’s coming up. I may do something on my own-I may no, but I’m not going to do any touring for the next couple of years I don’t think. I don’t want-I’m just kind of tired of doing it. And there’s a lot of things that I’ve been wanting to work on that I never get around to doing because I’m always on tour.
Anja: Things like what?
Well-working on some music outside of Nine Inch Nails, working on some music-some more Nine Inch Nails, working on some software projects I have, and some other interesting things I can’t get too far into detail with that aren’t music related but are interesting to me. And I just feel like it’s time to branch a little bit and try some things and at least say I tried it and it worked or didn’t work but instead of just talking about doing and never getting around to it.
Anja: So you’re not switching industries and like go to like Silicone Valley, invent internet games and more iPhone gadgets and stuff like that because I think they certainly would profit from your ideas, wouldn’t they?
T.R.: Well it’s part of what I’m willing to do is that world but mainly through the marketing of Nine Inch Nails in the last few years, I should say, as we’ve been free agents and we aren’t on any kind of record label now, I’ve had to spend a lot more time thinking about how to present Nine Inch Nails and how to release music these days and how to deal with the changing-the collapse of the music business basically. And it’s made me realize that nobody really knows what to do. And the people that are kind of in charge, they used to-they still run the record labels-they certainly have no idea what’s going on. And I certainly think there’s some space there where I think some good ideas could be applied that could help a lot of bands and hopefully, in the process, help establish a new business model for musicians that’s a bit more fair to them, because the traditional record label contract certainly isn’t fair to any musician, you know. You-they loan you money to make music, you do all the work, and at the end of the day they own it after you pay them back, and you get a terrible percentage on what you sell comes to you-it’s thievery, basically. And I’m hoping to help come up with some new ideas to put the power back where it belongs, in the hands of musicians.
Anja: You were…
T.R.: But We’ll-
Anja: Sorry…
T.R.: That was it.
Anja: O.K. You were on kind of a extreme creative in the last years since “With Teeth” in 2005-I don’t know-I don’t want to offend you-but maybe you prescribed this break for yourself to get more serious and substantial and maybe profound in writing again, not using so much computer, but maybe the piano more or so? You worked with Brian Viglione from Dresden Dolls so, maybe I could imagine something like that, you know, very acoustic and old stuff.
T.R.: Yeah-I’m keeping my options open right now and I’m also considering working outside of the name Nine Inch Nails and trying some different things as well.
Anja: When people announce a break from being public like maybe Sean Penn did recently, they usually try to invest more time into their relationships or marriages, I don’t know, build a family-maybe you want to be a Father someday?
T.R.: Yeah, I do. I’m actually out of the closet to be married and things have gone actually wonderful in that department, so I’m excited about that aspect of my life has been pretty neglected over the years, so (let’s) see what happens.
Anja: You’re living in Los Angeles now and I’ve always wondered if your old studio in New Orleans which suffered through the hurricane-was it destroyed or is it still standing?
T.R.: No-it’s still there. It weathered the storm fine. We disassembled it right before Katrina hit actually.
Anja: How close…
T.R. The building is still there…
Anja: How close to the catastrophe did you move out?
T.R.: No-I moved out the same year, a few months ahead of it actually. I kind of formally decided to move out to L.A. I’d been there for about a year, checking it out, and I then just sold my house and then that happens. I want to say that was around Spring of a-whenever that happened, 2003 I guess it was. And then the storm hit in the Fall-so it was some odd coincidence the way that worked. But the house I owned and my studio was all spared, there was no damage done from Katrina,
Anja: And who’s in it now?
T.R.: Actually, John Goodman, the actor, bought that from me, so he’s living there now.
Anja: Do you see it as a coincidence-not that John Goodman thing-but you’re moving out so close, or do you consider it to be fate?
T.R.: Nah-I think it was just a-fate in a sense but no-I have a lot of ties to new Orleans and I still consider that my home in a lot of ways. And I lived there for about thirteen years? Or twelve years? And watching that happen to that city was heartbreaking. It wasn’t the storm-it was the response and the people in the administration that destroyed that city. But I’ve been back there, a few months ago and I’m happy to say that it feels like the city’s coming back-it’s still a magical place.
Anja: When you announced that you were going to take a break from nine Inch Nails, what were the reactions? Did you fear something that maybe people would kind of break down or be angry or…
T.R.: Well, I’ve gotten a bit of all reactions, you know, and it’s kind of made-it certainly made, the band and myself, feel a bit bittersweet about everything, and it makes you appreciate…it makes you appreciate every moment that you’re doing it, more than ever, because it feels like “This is it.” And, you know, it’s strange for us to go-go on, with this? It feels like-it feels funny-but it’s the right thing to do. You know, and I think like anything, things come to an end, and this has run it’s course. You know, it’s-it’d be unfair to me to keep doing this, and doing this, and doing it, ‘cause it feels like I’ve done a lot with this thing, and it’s worked great, and I’m very happy with all we’ve done, and it feels like it’s relevant and functioning and it’s at full capacity right now, but at the same time, it feels like a good time to kind of retire it and try something else.
Anja: Do you think this is a result of your being healthy again and changing your life before “With Teeth”?
T.R.: Well, I think being comfortable with myself and being confident with myself have given me the confidence to be able to, stop this. You know, because it’s very easy to…rest on your laurels? You know, it’s easy to, ”if something isn’t broken don’t try to fix it,” just keep it going. And I feel like I’m going through the motions, to be honest with you.
Anja: uh hmm.
T.R.: And I think about now, I’m forty-four years old right now, I think about it onstage right now, most of the energy and incentive, um, and the inspiration for the concept and the music of Nine Inch Nails has been based on frustration and anger and negativity and hate and fury and …I still have that in me, but it’s probably not-it’s definitely not as much in the forefront as it was when I wrote a lot of that music. And getting into that headspace for two hours a day…and it’s not acting anymore. You don’t-I don’t –go out and say “I should act upset during this song- that’s what-that’s how I act during this song.” You start playing the song and you become the song and the song becomes you and you become…in this place that you…it’s a part of me, as it was in one time. And I’m-and that’s upsetting to some people, you know, that I’ve said that out loud? It’s upsetting to some people that I’m not a drug addict, and about to die, and considering killing myself every minute of the day, and I understand why that is for some people but it’s not who I am right now. I’m personally happy that I’m not that person. So, you know, things change, and this is where I am right now. I’m trying to address that and do what I think is best for the Art. And it would be better for the commerce if I kept this going, you know, but that’s not what this is about, it’s just that the best thing to do is to stop this where it is now.
Anja: I honor that very much that you are so true to yourself. When will be the last concert? Will it be in Taiwan?
T.R.: Yeah, I know that the very last dates are moving around a bit, that it’s somewhere in Asia. It’s the last-it might be in Taiwan. I’m not sure.
Anja: So when you play in Berlin next week, will it be different because you know it will be the last time with Nine Inch Nails in Berlin?
T.R.: Um…we just go out and give it our best, you know, and it becomes a little more…like I said, there is an element of…there’s a bittersweet and melancholy element to things, because you know this is it. You know that…at the same time, it’s still a show, and it’s music that we love plying, and it’s…we go out there and do the best we can do and let’s see what happens.
Anja: What do you think of bands or musicians like, let’s say Tina Turner, who always come back when they just said goodbye and, five years later, they’re still doing the same.
T.R.: (laughs)
Anja: Could that happen to you too?
T.R.: Yeah, we’re going out like KISS- we’re going to have a farewell tour every year for the next fifty years. Nah, I mean, this is not a calculated “I’m going to try to cash in this year.” In my heart, this feels to me, in 2009, like what I’m telling you is true, it’s how I feel about it. You know, can I tell you five years from now, ten years from now, that my heart is telling me I need to get Nine Inch Nails back together again-I might be saying that. I am not going to tell you, there’s no way in hell I’d ever consider that, what I hope I’ll be telling you is that “check this new thing I did, and it feels totally relevant to who I am right now.”
Anja: Which new thing?
T.R. Well, that’s what I mean, that’s what I’m working on new things. Things that could be outside of Nine Inch Nails.
Anja: You can’t be more specific?
T.R.: I don’t have specifics or I’d tell you what they are. What I plan on doing when I get off tour, is sit down and start creating things, and see what happens. And creating them outside the context of “this needs to be in a box called Nine Inch Nails.” And it might wind up in a box called Nine Inch Nails, and it might wind up, sitting on a shelf across the other side of the hall because it doesn’t sound like Nine Inch Nails.
Anja: Or in a cradle…
T.R.: Yeah, I might create something that winds up in a cradle (laughs). Who knows what could happen.
Anja: Yes. Thank You Very Much, Trent. I really like you very much.
